So, my friend had this idea.
It’s a good one.
And the opportunity came upon me last night, in a most unusual way.
Read John’s idea here.
Last night, I took my kids to dinner on our way home from Christmas shopping. Shortly after being seated, I overheard a woman at the booth behind me. The server said something about “a la carte,” and “three dollars,” or something.
Nonchalantly peeking over my shoulder, I noticed that the woman was clearly homeless. I smiled at her and motioned for her to join our table. She declined.
When the server returned, I whispered for him to feed her and add her meal to our bill. “Don’t tell her who is paying, but please indicate that she is welcome to order a meal.”
“I was going to give her something a la carte, and pay for it myself, miss,” he answered. “I think she came in to warm up.”
“That’s very kind. Go ahead and give her back the menu. Tell her anything she wants is fine.”
She had no idea it was us, I think. She was boxing up her leftovers as we left, and my children told her to have a merry Christmas. She returned the sentiment & winked at me, and then she said I had a lovely family. I agreed.
